Day 5: The Experience: From bush paths to barefoot luxury.

Morning Walking Trails (Optional but included)

While I decided to sleep in, my husband joined the guided walking trail. There were two options:

  • Short walk – 1.5 hours

  • Long walk – 3 hours (which the whole group opted for)

Both were described as easy and flat, and the guides shared insights about the wildlife's breeding habits, the ecology of the bush, and the unique geology of the Waterberg region. My husband came back glowing from the experience—and full of fun facts.

Morning Spa Treatment (Highly Recommend)

While he was walking, I was being pampered at the spa. I had a pedicure with a foot scrub and massage—and let me tell you, the setting was divine. Picture this: sitting in a comfy chair, looking out at the African bush, with birdsong in the background and the softest breeze. The spa staff were wonderful, and I left feeling like a new person.

🍽️ Lunch + Lion Lodge Stroll

After a relaxed buffet lunch at the lodge (Sebatana’s lunches never disappoint), we took a stroll up to Lion Lodge to have a look around. Its layout was totally different from our home base at Elephant Lodge and gave us a glimpse into another side of the reserve. We sipped on wine, explored a bit, and soaked up the scenery before heading back to prepare for a magical evening.

🌍 Tribal Evening (Optional Extra)

Tonight’s tribal experience was set in a boma near Rhino Lodge and is something I’d urge every guest to attend. Hosted under the stars, this was a private cultural dinner designed to share the traditions of South Africa’s indigenous black population.
We were treated to traditional dishes and drinks, and the energy of the evening was unmatched.

Dancers from a local heritage foundation performed songs and dances passed down through generations. They proudly retain their culture despite the lasting effects of colonisation, and their stories and joy were deeply moving. And yes—we all ended up dancing too! It was vibrant, educational, and so much fun.

Tips for Day 5:

💡 Pick your pace – Whether you want to stretch your legs or enjoy some stillness, both the bush walk and spa are incredible ways to spend your morning.

💡 Spa slots fill up fast – If you’re thinking of booking a treatment, I’d recommend doing so as soon as you arrive at Sebatana.

💡 Don’t miss Tribal Night – It’s not just a dinner; it’s a cultural celebration and a chance to engage with a rich, proud heritage. Bring your camera (and your dancing shoes!).

💡 Bring layers – Evenings can be cool, especially in open-air bomas.

Day 6 is a big one—we’re heading to Pilanesberg National Park for a chance to see even more of South Africa’s incredible wildlife. Spoiler alert: we saw 4 of the Big 5... but more on that soon!

Until next time—
Keep dreaming big, travelling far, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
