From Greece to the Bahamas: Our 10 for 10 Travel Challenge!
To celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, Andy and I wanted to do something a little crazy, a little ambitious, and very us.
Flashback to 19th June 2024 — we were sat at the Runway View Café in Kalamaki, Zakynthos, sipping strawberry milkshakes for our 9th anniversary. That’s when Andy came up with the idea: why don’t we visit 10 countries in a year to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary?
And just like that, 10 for 10 was born.
Some of these trips I’ve blogged in detail, others I haven’t, but here’s a little look back at all 10 countries, the highlights, the hiccups, and the memories that made this challenge unforgettable.
🇬🇷 Country 1: Greece (Kalamaki, Zakynthos)
We kicked things off where the idea began! We stayed at the lovely Venus Hotel & Suites, just off the main strip. Greece never lets us down — sunshine, gorgeous food, and that perfect “holiday mode” feeling. It was a classic European summer getaway: sun, pool, drinks, repeat. Bliss!
🇫🇷 Country 2: France (Disneyland Paris)
Back to Disney magic — our second time visiting together (my 5th overall 🙈). This time we stayed at Sequoia Lodge, a woodland-themed hotel with cozy, nature-inspired décor. It was a cheeky bank holiday weekend escape with a spa visit thrown in.
Disneyland was mid-refurbishment during our visit, so while we loved it, we’ve decided not to go back until the works are finished in 2026. (Because let’s face it — if I’m doing Disney, I want the full experience!)
🇨🇦 Country 3: Canada (Vancouver)
Our first time in Canada and… one word: WOW. I was even impressed by the airport! We had 3 nights in Vancouver before our Alaskan cruise (spoiler for country number 4 😉).
We explored Stanley Park, downtown Vancouver, Grouse Mountain, and the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge. It was love at first sight and we’re already planning to return.
🇺🇸 Country 4: USA (Alaska – Bucket List Trip!)
This was a dream come true. We did a 7-night Disney Wonder Alaskan cruise, stopping at Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan.
Each port was incredible, but the excursion in Skagway (crossing the Canada/USA border on the way to Yukon) was our absolute favourite. I’d happily do it again, though next time we might keep it shorter so we can enjoy Skagway itself.
We already know this won’t be our last time in Alaska — plans are brewing!
🇵🇹 Country 5: Portugal (Praia Da Rocha)
This one makes me laugh — we were originally planning a weekend in London for sightseeing and theatre shows. But once we did the maths, it turned out to be cheaper to go half board to Portugal for 2 nights than to do London!
So off we went for some November sunshine. It was short and sweet, but the chill vibes were just what we needed. In the words of Bon Jovi: “Woah, we’re halfway there!” 🎶
🇩🇰 Country 6: Denmark (Copenhagen)
A cheeky one-night January escape. Copenhagen is beautiful — but wow, no one warned me just how expensive it is!
We did the classic hop-on hop-off bus tour, which was perfect for squeezing in the highlights with such little time. I’d love to go back during the Christmas markets though; I can just imagine how magical the city must feel then.
🇿🇦 Country 7: South Africa (Safari – Bucket List Trip!)
Where do I even start?! We stayed at Elephant Lodge in the Sebatana Private Reserve, and honestly, I’d go back tomorrow if I could.
We saw the Big Five, ate the most incredible food, and soaked up the sunshine. It was everything I dreamed of and more. I’ve blogged about this trip in detail already, so if you want the full story, definitely check those posts out.
This is one of those “once-in-a-lifetime” holidays… except we know we’ll be doing it again one day.
🇨🇭 Country 8: Switzerland (Chur & the Bernina Express)
Easter weekend took us to beautiful Switzerland, and honestly — wow. From the moment we flew into Geneva and saw the mountains and lakes, I was hooked.
We based ourselves in Chur, a pretty little town surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery, and from there ticked off a bucket list experience — the Bernina Express. Travelling first class from Chur to Tirano, we passed snow-capped peaks, alpine villages, and even watched skiers swooshing down the slopes in April. By the time we rolled into Italy, it felt like we’d travelled through a postcard.
Switzerland is simply stunning, and the Bernina Express is something I’ll never forget.
🇮🇹 Country 9: Italy (Milan via Tirano)
After crossing the border on the Bernina Express, we had a short stop in Tirano — a charming little town that felt like a mix of Swiss calm and Italian style. We ate at a tiny café where I had one of the best tiramisus of my life (and a sandwich so big we could’ve shared it!).
Then it was on to Milan. We did the classic hop-on hop-off bus tour to get our bearings, but the highlight had to be visiting the Starbucks Reserve Roastery — a beautiful historic building turned into a coffee-lover’s paradise. We treated ourselves to espresso martinis (so good we went back for seconds!) and soaked up the atmosphere.
We finished our time in Milan with breakfast back at Starbucks Reserve and a visit to the Duomo di Milano — the perfect grand finale before our final stop.
🇧🇸 Country 10: Bahamas (Nassau)
We did it! On 19th June 2025 — exactly 10 years since our wedding day and one year after we made the “10 for 10” plan — we docked in Nassau.
A lot of people aren’t big fans of Nassau, but we honestly loved it. The port has been modernised and felt fresh and welcoming. We wandered around, soaked up the atmosphere, and of course enjoyed a few rums.
The highlight was Lukka Kairi Waterfront Bar & Grill — amazing cocktails, delicious food, and the coolest surprise: a manatee swam right up to where we were sitting on the pier. It felt like the perfect “cheers to us” moment, and a magical way to wrap up our 10-for-10 adventure.
And just like that, 10 countries in one incredible year. It was ambitious, exciting, a little chaotic at times — but 100% worth it. The memories we’ve made will last far beyond this anniversary, and who knows where we’ll be in another 10 years?
Until next time – keep dreaming big, travelling far, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
See you soon, Sarah x
