Easter Weekend 2025: Switzerland Adventure (Part 1 of 3)
A Long Weekend Begins
Country number 8 in our 12-month challenge took us to beautiful Switzerland – and what a way to spend Easter weekend. From stunning plane views to scenic train rides, our Good Friday journey set the tone for an unforgettable adventure.
Geneva to Chur via Zurich
We flew from Manchester Airport to Geneva, and honestly, I was blown away by how gorgeous the approach into Geneva is. Mountains, lakes, and crystal-clear skies – a picture-perfect welcome to Switzerland and my first time in the country. Even queuing at passport control offered views worth stopping for.
This stop also marked a milestone: our 8th country in our year-long challenge! (Stay tuned – a full review is coming once we complete the 10th.)
From Geneva, we took a scenic train journey to Chur, with a quick transfer in Zurich. Nothing about train travel in Switzerland is boring – the views were jaw-dropping the entire way.

Exploring Zurich (Briefly) and Settling into Chur
We had around 90 minutes between trains in Zurich, so we dashed out to grab some food. A lot of places were closed due to the Good Friday bank holiday, but we still got a little feel for the city and we’ll definitely be back – Zurich feels like it needs more time.
Zurich station is massive, and it took us a while to find our way out (and back in again!). Once on board, the journey to Chur was yet again stunning.
After arriving in Chur, we easily located where the Bernina Express departs from and then headed to our hotel, about a 15-minute walk away. Honestly, Switzerland is breathtaking. Every street, every turn, every hilltop was picture-perfect.
Check-in at the hotel was smooth. The lovely lady at reception was super helpful and explained everything, including how to order food since the hotel restaurant was closed (owned by a separate company and shut due to the holiday). She even offered to help us order a takeaway if needed – a small touch that went a long way.
After a long travel day, we were more than ready for an early night.

Tips
Bank Holidays: Be aware of public holidays in Switzerland – many shops and restaurants may be closed.
Train Travel: Trains are clean, scenic, and well-connected, but give yourself time at major stations like Zurich HB– it’s big!
Accommodation Perks: Check if your hotel includes transport passes – ours did, and the free bus rides in Chur were super handy.
Bring Snacks: Especially on public holidays when food options might be limited.
Next Up: Bernina Express
The real showstopper is coming next. Part 2 is all about our first-class ride on the Bernina Express – a bucket-list train journey that did not disappoint. Stay tuned!
Until next time – keep dreaming big, travelling far, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
